Review + Giveaway: FitnessGlo

February 21, 2013

Last night I really wasn’t feeling up-to-snuff to do my regular strength and conditioning workout that was scheduled, but I still wanted to do some sort of activity. Enter a quick 10-minute stretching routine on FitnessGlo that fit the bill perfectly. I did it in my pajamas in my home office. My husband looked at me funny when he came home, but that’s a common occurrence, so no skin off my back!

FitnessGlo is a website that has tons of workout videos that are taught by great instructors. No fancy sets or waterfall backdrops, these classes are just as if you were taking them in your gym’s group fitness room. My schedule has been a little hectic lately, and these were really convenient to have. There is a mix of cardio dance, step, balance, core work, strength, and stretching classes, and new ones are added constantly. What really got me to try this though? A lady named Petra Kolber, who is one of the instructors on FitnessGlo:

A little story:

In the late 90′s, I was going to fat camp every summer trying to lose weight. Of course looking back, I really should have been happy with my body and my fitness because I was really in shape.

Anyway, I loved step aerobics, so my mom got me a Petra Kolber Dance Step video (old school VHS). I loved Petra, the instructor, so much. She had energy without being over-the-top annoying, and a fun accent. She cued wonderfully, which makes a world of difference when trying not to trip over your feet and a step. The video was only 30 minutes long, and I could come home from school, pop it in, and be done with it quickly. As soon as I learned all the moves, I started to add “power” to them – adding a hop or putting a little extra funk into it. I had so much freaking fun.

The summer before college, I actually taught aerobics back at fat camp. I did kickboxing (inspired by Tae-Bo) and step aerobics, inspired by Petra. I loved her moves like her step version of the mambo and Charleston. With her, I mastered the rocking horse and around-the-world. Even though it’s been 12 years, I can still remember sequences from that video.

I actually had this comment on my Facebook page this past week and I was kind of dumb-struck because I had just finished a Petra Kolber step video on FitnessGlo, sans-step because unfortunately I don’t have one (you can do it all on the floor though!):

An awesome blast from the past from someone who liked my step aerobics classes that were inspired by Petra’s video!

Anyway, so I already had a strong affinity for FitnessGlo because I got to remember how much I loved that workout, and the videos on the site didn’t disappoint. There are also several other really good instructors like Ilyse Baker who has some really fun dance classes.

A lot of the videos are short in length, and you can create playlists to form your own continuous workout. So many options!

I’m headed out of town for part of next week and am going to do some FitnessGlo workouts from my hotel room with my tablet. So convenient for removing the obstacles of being short on time and equipment.

I coiled totally use this on busy days when I just can’t get to the gym.

I would use FitnessGlo when I’m traveling or when I’m just too busy to go to the gym–which is all too often!

  • Anita S

I would definitely love to use FitnessGlo to help with my own weightloss goals. I currently weigh around 460.8lbs(down from 472.8) and I just don’t feel comfortable walking into a gym…nor would I currently be within the weight limit of most of the equipment. So It would be great to have a set of exercises I can do here at home that would help me in my quest to be healthy!

I could definitely use this! I have just started incorporating exercise into my weight loss plan (I gave myself about a month to just focus on getting my food straightened out) and would like to try lots of different exercises!

  • JenM

My work schedule is so hectic crazy this time of year that the only hours I can get to the gym are hours I don’t feel comfortable being there alone as a single woman (5am, 10pm). I would LOVE something I could easily come home and do as much or as little as I had the time and energy for vs. having to change and drive to the gym! This would make a world of difference in my exercise routine!

I could definitely use this! Sometimes I just don’t feel like going to the gym (okay, a lot) and just want to workout in my living room. Also, I love to try new things!

  • Megan

This would be very handy, I tend to work out at home but get bored and need some inspiration and ideas.

  • JaCard

I would love this membership. I cannot get to a gym so I need workouts I can do at home with no equipment and ideally that would interest my little boys to “play” with me so I don’t have to keep interrupting to break up fights!

I would love to receive the 90 day subscription to FitnessGlo! I have a little 2 year old that makes it difficult for me to make it to workout classes or to the gym. My husband works crazy long hours that result in me being the only one to watch our daughter. To loose the weight I have gained during and after pregnancy I have tried doing workouts at home. Recently, I have been doing Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. I tend to get bored with doing the same workout over and over so it would be great to have a website to go on and do different types of workouts!

I would love to try it! I have some health issues that I am working hard at trying to overcome, and in-home exercise and nutrition is what I need.

Hi Emily! I just recently found your blog (thru a pinterest pin I think), and as someone who is trying to lose over 75 lbs, I found your blog to be so inspiring to me. I checked out your link to FitnessGlo, and then saw that you were offering a chance to win 90 days free which would be so great for me. I have been trying to work out to little snips of videos that I found on youtube, but loading them takes more time then the actual workout! I have promise myself that as soon as I lose 30 more lbs that I will go to the gym, but until then I have been trying to do this at home because I am embarrassed about how big I am and how bad my fitness level is. I went once and noticed a couple high school girls watching me and laughing, so I didn’t go back. Anyway….this is why I would like to win. Thanks!!

  • Emily

I would love to have a subscription! I have recently lost 50 lbs and have about 50 more to go, and I’ve done it all working out at home to walking and weight training videos. I would LOVE to try out some new ones to keep me motivated at this halfway point!

    Step aerobics is my jam.

  • Melinda Ott

I’m always looking for new workouts to try and I like the idea of being able to try a few without having to buy DVD’s (until I know I like the instructor).

I would love to try the Barre and the cardio!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/swyen Sara Phythyon Wyen

I would use FitnessGlo as my cross-training resource since I do not have access to a gym or trainer and am just getting back to working out.

I would love to try barre classes and love the scheduling

I’m struggling to find a gym in my new hometown and so an at-home workout would be great! Plus I’m in Australia so assuming I can still enter / access the site?!

  • Lori C

This would so help with my “move more” plan

Looks like a good way to add a little extra movement into the day!

  • Alyssa Carboni

I see myself using FitnessGlo to ramp up my activity–I am really looking for new cardio/strength/flexibility exercises to do at home!

  • L. Mae Morgan

I would LOOOOVE to win this! I am currently getting back into shape and part of that battle is being kind to myself that I can no longer run 5 miles a day like I used to! I really would love a fun, easy workout plan like this!

  • greta funk

Getting in some cardio/strength with the kids during the day!

  • Aph Mordly

Ohh I can so use this!

  • Laurie

This looks great! I love your blog!!

  • Kristi Mout

Love this! Thanks so much for telling us about it. I loved the whole thing, I love hearing about your past experiences, fitness reviews, and new things we might want to try!

  • Kristi Mout

Oh I think I’ve done a workout from her too, she had an allstar workout on fitness tv.
it was a pilates class which I’m not a big fan of, but I liked her, I liked her personality.
