Food is the toughest part of this weight loss journey for me, bar none. Since I prepare meals for myself, I often end up eating leftovers for days, and get tired of the food. I’m also just a plain lazy cook and it takes some extra planning and prep for me to come up with a tasty dish to eat. The cycle I have is that I wait until I’m really hungry, then eat something like a protein bar, then later decide to eat something really awful and it leads to shame and guilt. Lack of planning really does me in. I’m working on changing it though.
This past week, I had some mega food assistance from diet delivery service Diet-to-Go. They have 3 menus to to choose from: Traditional (1200 or 1600 calories); Vegetarian; and my choice, Low Carb. You can choose between 5 and 7 day plans that include all 3 meals per day, or just lunch and dinner. They ship weekly and are delivered in a cooler. There are different menus weekly so you have a good variety of meals.
Here’s one of the packages unopened:

I will be completely honest and say that I expected the meals to be boring, bland, and just not very exciting. My tastebuds and stomach are so glad that I was wrong. Everything tasted wonderful and was seasoned well. I simply opened the package, threw it onto a plate, and heated it up. Ridiculously easy for a convenience eater like myself.
Tomato mushroom omelette, mustard greens, sausage patty.
Grilled pork chop, garlic cauliflower puree, veggies.
I am a fan of breakfast at any time of day, so I was especially a fan of the breakfasts, but think my favorite meal of them all was the grilled pork chop with garlic cauliflower puree and veggies (green beans and artichoke hearts). It was so flavorful and tender and really satisfied my taste buds. The beef short ribs with mushroom gravy was a close second.
A diet delivery service is nothing that I would have considered before this trial, but after experiencing the taste and convenience, I’m signing up for at least a few more weeks until I get into a better place with my eating. When I looked in my refrigerator and realized I only had 1 Diet-to-Go meal left, I was bummed. It’s been a particularly hectic week and I know my food wouldn’t have been so on-track if I had been preparing it for myself all week. As a bonus, I also discovered that many of the meals are on MyFitnessPal already, so you don’t need to enter all the nutrition manually if you track your foods that way.
Diet-to-Go is having a 1,000 meal giveaway on their Facebook page. You can enter to win from 1 week to 1 month of free meals. They also have a coupon for 25% off any meal plan valid through January 8th using code “newyear2013.”
