The Color Run Recap

July 29, 2012

Today, I rolled out of bed super early to head to The Color Run in Louisville. Billed as “The happiest 5K on the planet,” this untimed race is held at locations across the country. The premise? You do a 5K and at certain stations throughout the course, you get doused in color (dyed corn starch). 8,000 people participated in the Louisville event. The crowd was crazy, but it was super-organized.

Before

After!

This was the first “organized” race since my half-marathon injury, and I’m pretty disappointed at how much pain my ankle ended up in despite just walking the course. It’s very angry with me and I’ve been icing it since I got home. Hopefully it will be much better tomorrow. I’ll have to bust out some of my physical therapy exercises.

Despite my crap ankle, I had fun! Holli and Anne and I had a great brunch afterwards at my favorite spot in Louisville, Ramsi’s Cafe on the World. Nom.

Surprisingly, most of the color came off quite easily after a scrub in the shower. The blue seems to be most resistant to removal, as there is now a tint resembling a massive bruise along the side of my body. My hair retained a little bit of the green, but I don’t mind!

Have you done The Color Run or similar race?

Thanks for sharing. I’m partcipating in the color run in Birmingham in September and plan to walk it. So many people I know are running it and I was worried i would be the only one walking it. Good to know someone else walked it. :) sorrry about your ankle but glad you had fun!

Lots of people walked it, so don’t worry at all!

Sadly I already missed Cleveland’s color run this year, but it’s so going on my list for next year!

And Ramsi’s is the one restaurant I miss in Louisville!! So jealous you got to go. I didn’t take advantage of it as often as I should have when I lived there.

I did the Color Run Cleveland! It was fun, but so hot and so crowded. But nonetheless, I had a great time and hope to do it again!

That looks like so much fun to get doused with color!! :) Sorry about your ankle injury and sometimes injuries just take a really, really long time to heal. My knee is constantly hurting and I injured it over ten years ago! Take care of it, ice it and compress it. Do the therapy and you should be fine!

That looks like so much fun!! I’m doing it in September in DC! I have a bit of a silly question though… how did you guys get the pictures of you looking awesome and colorful after the race?? Did you bring a camera/phone in a plastic bag? Leave it in the car? Help!

I put my phone and camera in sandwich baggies :) Some people had fancy cases, but the sandwich bags worked great! Another big tip for post-race: baby wipes!

It looks like so much fun! I am excited — I am doing the Color Run in Charlotte, NC in November with a bunch of girlfriends…thanks for posting! And sorry to hear about your ankle — I hope it gets better soon.
