I am fat.

July 5, 2012

I’m a little bit of a mega-fan of YouTube star/singer/songwriter/amazing Meghan Tonjes. I’ve been known to listen to her Request Tuesday’s on repeat and pre-ordered her album in actual CD format. That’s major – who the hell uses CD’s anymore?!

Anyway, as if I couldn’t love Meghan any more, she posted this video a few months ago on her secondary YouTube channel (this is what happens when you’re SO POPULAR on YouTube. You best believe I subscribe to all her channels) called “I am fat.”

She has dealt with all kinds of negativity from haters who hide behind the anonymity of commenting on the internet, and her response was brilliant. It’s making it’s way through the interwebz, and I’m so excited for the exposure her message has gotten.

Suck it, haters.

Oh, also? Meghan might like Ed Sheeran as much as I do. Or maybe more? I may fight her over him. In any case, here’s one of my favorite Request Tuesday’s where she covers Ed Sheeran’s “The A Team.”

Okay, apparently I lived under a damn rock. I did not know of Meghan OR Ed Sheeran. Consider my mind officially blown. Twice.

    Thanks, friend :)

Okay, she is awesome! That’s great she accepts the way she is. But…. I still can’t stand the word Fat! I have never called myself Fat nor would I call someone Fat. There are so many nicer ways to say someone is overweight/heavy/pleasantly plump etc… I have informed my significant other Mike, when we have children our children will not be allowed to use the word Fat and if they use it they will be punished like it’s a cuss word. He thinks I’m taking it too far with this word but I HATE this word. Maybe I have had just to many negative things associated with this word. I want to teach my children to be nice to others and put our more positive energy into the world. There are also other ways to describe someone other than their weight. You should be nice to someone based on who they are and not how they look.

I have told my kids they are not to be using the word fat in our house. It’s mostly because I’m afraid my daughter will have body issues. She is no where near being overweight but still asks me sometimes is she is fat and my boys will call her fat because they know it’s a hurtful word.

Wow, I think I love that chick! “Why does it hurt you if I don’t hate myself?” Brilliant question!!
P.s. Got my shirt, LOVE IT! Gonna send you a pic ASAP! :)

wow love it! she comes across really well although feisty it’s well reasoned and make sense. I like the question does it hurt you that I don’t hate myself? I do think it is also a feminist issue. (like many things) She is expected to be thin if she wan’t to be successful and some people can’t handle that she has talent and put’s herself out there doing her thing well and isn’t thin.

I am also a huge fan of Megan’s. We were recently connected through a mutual friend (Natalie from lovenati.com – who also soundtracks my videos with songs from her band nunchix.com), and I have big plans to do a workout video with her. Awesome post!!

That was AWESOME. Like seriously. Totally wish I felt that about myself a lot more than I do, but you know what? Seeing this and reading these awesome blogs (yours of course) helps me kick those lame thoughts to the curb. Rock on, ladies!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

So far I watched the first video. LOVE her! I went on to read many of the comments people left. I know people often hide behind a screen and spew nonsense. The comments made by hateful indivuals broke my heart because this is what’s in the mind of others without knowing the person or where he or she is coming from. When people say anything relating to fat=lazy or fat=no self-control…it makes me crazy! How is it that someone who smokes like a chimney can preach about health to someone who is overweight? Hello! You’re not observing healthy habits by smoking. Sorry, rant over. Some people really need to get a clue.

Thank you for introducing me to her music! I love it! I just downloaded a bunch of her music from iTunes.
