Back in the Saddle!

July 26, 2012

This past couple of weeks, I’ve worked hard to re-form my exercise habit that I had prior to my injury-of-a-freakin-lifetime. Take it from me: if you’re in a workout routine currently, DO NOT STOP if you can avoid it! Man alive, it’s been difficult to get my mind back into making time for the gym. Case-in-point? On my second back-at-it workout, I moaned and groaned and cursed myself before finally getting into the car to drive to the gym. I reasoned with myself that once I got in the car, I would stop being such a baby and get over it. Instead, halfway there, I started looking for places where I could do a U-turn to head back home. Thankfully, I decided to stay headed in the right direction, and I was so glad I did.

Go check out my advice for getting back into a routine – over on the Enell blog today.

Oh – sweaty face photos. I swear I’m smiling big on the inside in all of them!

a little sweat never killed anyone :)

I wanted to also thank those for leaving comments and concerns on my latest blog post about the pain I was having. I’m doing great now and am trucking along without stuffing my face with carbs!

How is your week going?

Glad you are feeling better! Yes it can be so hard to get back into the swing of things. It’s so easy to find an excuse not to exercise. I’ve made it all the way to my gym before and then turned around for some ridiculous reason – “There’s no parking” when I could have parked at the grocery store down the street and walked over. I’m glad you stuck it through.

YAY! I’m so glad you are back to your exercise routine. I know how hard it is to start but like you said you’ll be so happy once you are back in the swing of things. Right now I am experiencing how hard it is to stop and not know when the next workout will be. Oh well, healing takes time. Enjoy! :)

Hey Emily, thank you for the reminder that a decision to live differently is a “just for today” type of thing. It takes some practice and patience to replace those habitual thought patterns, doesn’t it? Even after all these years, I still often forget and appraise myself in the mirror – knowing I’m going to see “overweight Greg” looking back at me. Regardless of how others might tell me I look. Keep the faith and please remember, as I try to, that we don’t have to “make up” for what we didn’t do yesterday; we only need to do all we can today.

I can totally relate. I have learned to fight the monster of disease of LAZY. I too feel tons better once I finally make it to the gym and start working out. Im thinking what a relief and asking myself “what is wrong with me, this feels great, why am I not here more often” But its getting past that hump…
