OOTD and a closet refresh!

June 21, 2012

Today, I feel like twirling because I love the dress I’m wearing.

Dress: Igigi via Gwynnie Bee
Shoes: Old cork wedges, Mossimo from Target (similar)

Seriously, it’s quite possibly one of the most flattering dresses I’ve ever worn. It’s a true wrap, so you can cinch in at the waist and adjust the neckline as you need. The best part? I didn’t have to buy it… at least not in the traditional sense.

Let me explain: I have mentioned something called Gwynnie Bee here before, but haven’t explained it as it’s still in testing and isn’t open to everyone. It’s like Netflix for clothes: you create a virtual closet where you pick items you want, and you can have a certain number of pieces out at a time. So, right now I’ve got a few Gwynnie Bee items in my closet, but when I want to switch them up, I just ship them back and they send me more things from my closet! It’s great because as I’m losing weight it’s hard to invest in lots of new pieces, but I still want the variety of new things.

Some other Gwynnie Bee items in my closet right now:

super cute bird tunic

Floral cardigan via Gwynnie Bee with my crops via Ideeli, and petsitting pup Rosie who photobombed me.

Want to get an invite to Gwynnie Bee or learn more? Visit their site and tell them I referred you so you can get early access. As a bonus, if you sign up before the end of June and tell them I sent you, they will include 1 extra piece in your subscription for the first 2 months!

I can’t wait for my next shipment to come… but I guess that means I’ll have to part with some of these pieces. Decisions, decisions!

what an awesome idea, and I do love the dress & birdie shirt. does it include all sizes, or is it plus size only? I couldn’t really get a good idea from the website… thanks :)

    • Katherine

Sorry I just found the answer, sizes 10-24. Works for me :)

      • Emmie

        Yep, 10-24!

  • Lilly

Neat! I just signed up, but for the 1 piece out at a time since I’m not currently working outside the home and I wouldn’t have any place to wear so many fabulous things!
Has the stock changed much since you signed up? I’m seeing some really cute stuff but not a lot for summer.

      Hi Lilly,
New arrivals hit monthly – the next batch releases on 6/28. A TON of color is coming. We also realized we did the current clothing a disservice by photographing in only black or dark demin pants. The items under Fresh Looks are good for summer, but the pants aren’t helping. Soooo, look for the new photos on 6/28…an explosion of lightness will be on the site!

        Hi Christine,
This is a great idea! I’m anxiously awaiting for Gwynnie Bee to offer non-plus sizes as well. I could see myself signing up!

    • Emmie

Hi Lilly – check out Christine’s comment. To back her up, yes, they’ve introduced new clothes regularly. I believe this is my third month with my subscription and each month has brought new items.

That dress is FAB! You should definitely work the wrap dress into your wardrobe whenever possible, it’s so flattering and cute :)

  • Lisa

Love all of the pieces! Thanks for the suggestion, I’m going to check it out.

I love the dress and the bird top! I’ll definitely be checking out that site!

  • Sandy

I love all of the outfits…and again, so loving the hair. Netflix for clothes?! What a fantastic idea. I might have to take a look at this site, but I believe I’d also suffer from problem of not wanting to switch out sets, especially if something was really, really flattering. Do they have an option to buy the clothes as well? Or a link to where you can buy them if there’s one or two you just absolutely fall in love with?

That dress is really beautiful on you, and I already commented about how much I love your third outfit. I really like the concept of Gwynnie Bee, especially for those of us who are losing weight and dropping sizes. The $79/month price point for 3 pieces is a bit steep, though. I wish they had something a bit more moderate. Still, it’s really cool to know this service is out there.

  • Elizabeth

The haircut is really, really cute! Is it difficult to style?

  • Lynette S.

Do you watch “Drop Dead Diva”? I swear they need to hire you as the dresser for that program, you always look SO good and when I watch the show I wonder why the lead doesn’t look as beautiful as you!

  • Stacy

That dress looks AMAZING on you! I want one!

  • Kimberly

you look AMAZING in that dress

  • Amanda in KY

Just wanted to say you look amazing! Love the clothes too!

  • Molly

I LOVE this idea! At the moment, I can only afford the 1-at-a-time option, but I’m still really looking forward to it. I plan to add the first two items here to my virtual closet ASAP

How exciting!! I found Birchbox via your site- I am a chicken when it
comes to trying new things. My basic wardrobe is black pants, black
tank, and various jackets/cardigans. The ladies at work are going to
    be jealous!

Wow! That sparkly skirt is to die for. I love when us bigger women have a sense of style. On that note, hello! My name is Sara and I’m a new follower. Love your blog and hope to get a chance to go back and read your story. I’m always on the look out for other women who have similar interests and also in a weight loss journey. This is me, too! :)

I know this post is kind of old, but do you know the name of the dress ( I may have missed it in the post). I love it!

    • http://www.skinnyemmie.com/ Emily Sandford

It’s called the Cheryl Wrap Dress from IGIGI. It’s not sold anymore, but Gwynnie Bee still has it for borrowing.

  • Jessica

Thanks, I’m looking forward to putting it in my closet!

  • Jessica

I got the Cheryl dress from Gwynnie Bee, and I’m wearing it today. I love it! They didn’t offer size 26/28 anymore (which I normally wear), but I took a chance and tried the 22/24, and I’m so happy I did. It’s a little more snug than I am used to, but being a wrap dress, it still appropriately fits. Thanks!
