Ask Away

Is there anything in particular you’d like me to write about? Have a burning question? Tell me in the comments! I’m going to compile a list of reader questions to save for rainy days when I’m not sure what to say. I can’t get to them all, but will do the best I can.

Ready. Set. Go!

How did you go about starting your blog? I don’t mean what inspired you, I mean the nuts and bolts. I’m trying to start my own but I’m a bit lost. You have a really awesome one, any advice?

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

This is a very long answer, but I’ll do my best to answer it sometime next week, stay tuned!

One major question and issue I am facing is bathing suits – where do you go for them, especially ones that fit well and cover but don’t look dowdy! Summer always brings up this same dilemma!

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

ooh, I have some big opinions on this! I’ll answer sometime before next Wednesday.

How does your husband feel about the weight gain/loss. Is he supportive? Is he trying to lose weight too?

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

this was a great question, Lisa. He’s my silent partner :)

I have been reading your blog about a month now and have felt very inspired. My journey is very similar but I am just getting started on a hopeful 175 pound weight loss. I am about a couple months in, and beginning to see the weight loss stall and come off SLOW, if at all. I really fight the just cave in for this meal/day and start again tomorrow or next week. I have the will power and the commitment to fight this feeling and not give in like I have SO many times before. I hate this feeling and this has been my cycle in the past that I couldn’t ever get out of.

My question is this, have you had these moments and what got you through them?

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

The short answer is HECK YES, but I’m sure you want more of an answer than that! I’m adding it to my list of topics to address sometime in the next 2 weeks.

How do you deal with the fact that this has to be a lifelong (lifestyle, as they say) change? I can do the right things long enough to lose weight and yes, overall it makes me feel better, but I also get this overwhelming feeling that if I ever actually do reach my goal weight, I will never again be allowed to even smell macaroni and cheese or hot fudge sundaes or pizza, or else I will instantly undo all of my hard work. Does this scare you? Or are you already good at moderation? Or maybe it’s just one more piece of the journey, that you don’t need to worry about it until you come to it?

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

Great question! I’ll answer this sometime before the end of the month :)

One more. On the Biggest Loser and plenty of other presentations of overweight people in the media, it seems like the commonly accepted idea is that no one gets overweight without extreme emotional baggage/issues/events, and that no one can lose and keep off the weight until they do the mental work alongside the physical work. I’m willing to accept this idea because it’s certainly true for me, but do you think it’s misleading or harmful to say none of us got here on the outside without being at least somewhat messed up on the inside? It also seems insulting… even if it’s true. Urgh.

Another great one! And very observant. I’ll answer before the end of the month.

I’d love to know how you stay motivated day in and day out. I’m lacking in this area right now and desperately need to jump back on board. I know the answer is different for everyone, but still something I’d love to know about you. :) Thanks!

      Added to the list!

  • LHA

I would like to know how you motivate yourself to exercise. Of the two components of weight loss, eating well and exercising, do you think one has been more effective than the other? For me, controlling my diet is infinitely easier than making myself do any form of exercise. Have you always been somewhat athletic, or is the exercise a new experience for you?

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

Added to the list o’ topics- good question, thanks!

I’ve got a few: how do you stay so positive? is it hard not to compare yourself with other smaller-sized women? how do you deal with your “lady time”? when’s the last time you went on a plateau, took a “break” from going to the gym?

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

Lynda, I’ve added these to the list of to-be-answereds! Thanks :)

Hi Emmie, I think I also mentioned this in response to an earlier post you wrote. When you just started your blog / in the short clip for the biggest loser, you were mentioning all the daily inconveniences you run into, and how these keep you locked up at home (toilet stalls, airplanes, etc etc). I would be really interested to know if you notice improvements here, and what you are still running into,

    Hello!
Firstly, just wanted to say that I LOVE your blog – quite the inspiration!
I’ve recently started writing my own, and this may sound stupid but at the moment it’s a secret! I feel like I want to find my own writing style and place in the blogging world before I open myself up to criticism from friends and family….Have you always been totally open about your blogging? I know someone already asked this earlier on, but any tips on getting started?
Keep up the great work! :D
