Slow Saturday

February 5, 2011

Oh winter, how I wish you would go away. Another gray, rainy day here. Thankfully no snow to deal with, but the gloom is NOT helping my mood or energy improve.

Instead of waking up like a spring chicken and getting to the gym in the morning, I lazed around with pup and sipped coffee and ate whole grain pancakes with a banana. My pajamas were warm and cozy, and the thought of having to go out in the rain and wind just made me want to crawl back into bed. Hubs works every other weekend, so I found myself alone, piddling around the house not getting anything accomplished.

I knew I had to go to the gym, so finally around 1:30pm I decided to re-arrange my songs on my iPod to try to get a higher energy workout mix together. I needed something — ANYTHING to help get me through my high intensity workout I had scheduled today.

Thank goodness it helped. The gym was really busy, so I stayed put on the Arc trainer for an hour. (Don’t worry, I’m not a machine hog- the other Arc stayed unoccupied the entire time). I pumped through my intervals and felt good about my progress. I probably had the most sweat-dripping workout I’ve ever had. It wasn’t the hardest workout, but my body definitely felt like it was purging.  Right now my face looks like I have the chicken pox, it is so broken out. (Not exaggerating- even hubs noticed it and he’s pretty aloof).

Anyway, when I finished my hour, I checked the calories on the machine. For the first time, I had entered my weight in the machine, and it told me I burned 1334 calories. I’m a little skeptical of that, but it was fun to see.

I stopped by the gym membership director’s office and told her about the 101 pounds lost. She gave me an awesome Nike gym bag with the gym logo embroidered on it and I love, love it. Seriously, great peeps there.

The rest of the afternoon was spent back in my pajamas. I made a post-workout green monster:

2 handfuls fresh spinach, 3 ice cubes, almond milk, vanilla protein powder, a little natural peanut butter and a frozen banana

I tried to make the rest of the day somewhat productive, so in preparation for the week ahead, I:

  • Made a marinade for a new recipe I want to try tomorrow
  • Cut up, bagged and froze my ripe bananas for future green monsters (I like slightly green bananas to eat- not ripe ones, so this helped me save the ripe ones)
  • Made some of Rocco’s Now Eat This macaroni and cheese to store in the refrigerator
  • Sliced up a couple of sweet potatoes to have ready for sweet potato fries this week if the mood strikes

So, that’s about it. I’m headed to bed now in hopes that tomorrow might bring with it some energy and drive.

What are your plans for tomorrow? Watching the big game?

I REALLY had to convince myself to go to the gym today. I changed into my workout clothes and even then I lazed around on the couch for an hour before I got my butt to the gym! But I am really glad I went. That smoothie thing sounds delicious!

I had PLANNED the treadmill but stupidly opted for writing up blog posts on the computer. SO only the fingers got a workout. Bad. Glad you got there!

Not football fans here so tomorrow will just be normal. :-)

How on earth do you stay on a machine for hour, I wish I could do that I get so bored! I managed 30 minutes on the spin bike by myself yesterday and almost fell off the bike bored stiff! :-)

So long as there’s nothing important you needed to do, I don’t see the problem with getting to the gym at 1.30 on a Saturday! :) I prefer to exercise in the afternoons, and (whilst it’s not possible most of the time) when I can exercise then, I’m happiest :)
