Handling the bumps

February 3, 2011

For the most part, I’m pretty positive around here, and in life in general. Sometimes though, things just don’t click like I want them to. Sometimes, it’s a struggle to get out of bed at 5:30am and get to the gym in the cold.

I’ve done (and blogged about) a lot of milestones in my weight loss journey recently.

This week, however, things just aren’t clicking. I’m not firing on all cylinders. My energy has dropped, my appetite is huge and my motivation isn’t as easy to come by.

So this week, I’m simply riding out the rough patch. I’m doing my workouts, even if they seem 10 times harder. I’m trying very hard to eat well, even though something is telling me I’m hungry.

“If losing weight were easy, everyone would do it.” This is what I remind myself as I put down the extra helping of chicken or as I lay in bed cursing my alarm.

So, that’s that. Stick with me till I get my mojo back :)

How do you handle the rough patches?

I wonder if there is something in the air this week! I’m going through the same things! Hungry all the time. Tonight’s run was one of the toughest in a long time. I walked twice! I haven’t done that since I was sick!

I think you are doing the right things though. You are just fighting through it, trying to stay as close to the path as possible. You are totally right… if this were easy everyone would do it…

Keep pushing! You can blast through this hump in the road.

Sorry to hear the week has been rough. Keep in mind this saying I like, “One foot in front of the other gets you where you’re going if you keep moving!”

Sometimes when I’m feeling down or discouraged, I search the web for inspiring stories of other’s who have strugged with weight loss and excersice and that’s how I found Skinny Emmie! I’ve shared your website with some co-workers and thanks to your inspiration, we are going to start weekly “support talks” at work to help each other out during the process of all trying to live healither lifestyles. I’ve tried to get out during these colder months and do some running, but just like you, I have days when I just don’t feel up for it. I love your quote “If losing weight were easy, everyone would do it” and that’s so true. Thanks for being an inspiration to so many – keep pushing through, you can do it girl!

It’s going around to be sure, you seem to be winning the battle though and that’s what’s important. You keep pushing through and this will pass, then you’ll know you can make it through the next time it hits.

It must be in the air! I’m having the same issues with being hungry and having no motivation. However, these feelings are temporary and you’ll be so glad that you just kept pushing and didn’t give up or give in. You can do it!

Its that february feeling – its so much harder to stay on track when Christmas is over, the winter weather is encouraging comfort eating and the January ‘new start’ rush has fallen away. However, if you keep riding out this rough patch, the rewards will be twice as sweet – even in the face of adversity, you can do this! It will seem so much easier once this patch has passed.

  • Kori

You can do it! You’re doing absolutely spectacular, and even warriors need to rest once in a while. Hang in there chica. Happy Friday! :)

Everyone has rough patches and I think you are handling it beautifully.

“I’m doing my workouts, even if they seem 10 times harder. I’m trying very hard to eat well, even though something is telling me I’m hungry.”

Just keep doing what you’re doing and this too shall pass.

Oh, Emmie! I am having a snarky week, too. I am eating up a storm in a dreadful way and just generally having an “oh eff it” attitude all around. I don’t know how, or if I can, just stop the bad attitude and behavior, and may have to just ride it out until I feel more inspired for my wagon.
But maybe you can feel a bit better by getting a little of that holier-than-though feeling. Does that ever work for you? Maybe you don’t think you did the very best you could have, but compare yourself to someone who’s a bit of a mess and you kinda feel better about yourself?
If you are that kind of person (’cause I totally am) you can use me as your step up for feeling a little smug about yourself today:
I just put about 55 million smushed up mini reese’s pieces into my oatmeal (which otherwise would have been healthsome). And gobbled it down. And now I smell the damning scent of peanut butter. Perhaps coming out of my pores.

    Xo and happy weekend!

I think one of the best things is to just keep focused on what you DO want and not so much on where you ARE this week. Don’t let those little thoughts creep in, because you have done SO AWESOME so far! 100 lbs is a HUGE accomplishment, in addition to your fitness. We all have our days…so just focus forward and stay on course. I bet by next week, you’ll be back and running on all cylinders! YOU CAN DO THIS!! :)

YOU make me handle the rough patches !!! so don’t give up, it’s normal everyone have his up & down, that’s human, even more in a journey like yours !!!

    bisous

Just keep truckin’ away. Keep putting your shoes on and walking out the door. Once you get your workout gear on (often the hardest part to find motivation) you HAVE to go to the gym. :)

don’t lose sight of the fact that you are a beautiful, healthy vibrant woman. Whatever hell that life throws at you just bat it back. x

I agree with the others. You are amazing, my friend! You will get through this week, i know that much! Just keep trudging and moving forward! XOXO

I blame the weather. I’m all over the place this week, too. I went to the gym on Tuesday and felt like I couldn’t handle my usual load, and then I didn’t go for the rest of the week. And my eating, well, I’m not even going to tell you about that. But I’m planning on getting a good night’s sleep and hitting the gym in the morning. Like you’ve told us, there’s no time like the present to start again!

Eww, I hate those kind of weeks. I do just what you are doing, just keep pushing. There’s really no way around it. Isn’t it crazy what life throws at you? You think you’re going to keep cruising and then get derailed. It sounds like you are still doing an awesome job, so keep up the good work!
