Dumpy Butt

February 16, 2011

As I posted over on Facebook today, I have a bad case of dumpy butt.

The ironic thing is that I just picked these up from alterations yesterday. When I dropped them off 2 weeks ago, all I noticed was that the legs were too long. Now? The waist is too big, the thighs are droopy, and don’t get me started on the crotch.

I’m not complaining, really. I mean, hooray weight loss and body changes! Unfortunately though, I don’t have an unlimited budget for clothes. This meant my evening was spent running out in desperation for pants that don’t make me feel like MC Hammer, but also weren’t too expensive.

I love ordering online. With an unlimited budget, I’d spend tonight filling virtual carts with Kiyonna, IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel, Macy’s, Monif C., Anna Scholz, Lane Bryant, Old Navy and now that I’m a little smaller, even Nordstrom. Tonight though, I trudged out to somewhere I’ve never been- Kohls. Thankfully, I got 2 pairs of non-dumpy-butt work trousers that will hopefully tide me over to circulate some of the current dumpiness out of my wardrobe. I also got a fabulous Dana Buchman tunic with sequins – who knew they sold Dana Buchman?!? I also hit up the Talbots Outlet store and got a lightweight ivory cardigan for $7 (!!!) and a white button down blouse for $19 (originally $90).  I’ve never been a deal shopper, but I feel good knowing that I didn’t break the bank on these basic pieces and can splurge on some other pieces from my favorite places down the line, including the perfect 30th birthday dress for April!

So, that’s all I have for today. Worked out, worked, bargain hunted, ate, blogged.

On a more exciting note, we hit $500 raised so far for my half-marathon/Parkinson’s Disease research fund- this is 20% of my $2,500 goal. And I still have over 6 weeks to go! Please help spread the word (and if you already have, just ignore these pleas through April 3rd :)

What other fashion faux pas really bother you?

I’m laughing out loud–I so know what you mean about dumpy butt. It’s so unattractive, but worse it feels unattractive. I’ve been the victim of dumpy butt too. The solution as you alluded to is–better fitting, more tailored clothing. Showing off curves beats dumpy butt anyday, in my opinion.

Dumpy butt! hahahahaha! You’re too funny! I’m no fashionista so nothing bothers me unless it’s really obvious, like wearing red plaid pants with a neon pink spandex leotard…and a tiara. ;) Great job on your fundraising! Here’s something for your consideration. You could also ask readers to donate items and then hold an online auction for them on a certain day, all proceeds going to your goal, and the people who donated them would ship them out to the winners after they donated to the KY neuroscience inst. I recently participated in something like this but the blogger did an online bake sale, but I was thinking you could really take any sort of donations, like new purses, movies, electronics, handcrafted stuff, whatever readers/bloggers want to donate. In one day, Stephanie raised 1,700 with the bake sale! Here’s the link to her auction so you can see how she did it: http://www.stephsbitebybite.com/?p=1016 Don’t know if that interests you, but I thought I’d let you know in case you need ideas.

That’s great, what an apt description. I have the same issue with pants, to fit my hips and belly they need to be a certain size then hang at the back, slip down at the waist and yeah the crotch hangs absurdly low, such a dilemma, can’t wait to lose the hips and belly so I can get smaller pants and not have dumpy butt issues :-) nice to see body changes though!!!

Oh my gosh! I so get it! To be honest, my husband suffers from dumpy butt (I call it diaper butt) more than I do. No one in his family has a butt, and finding clothes can be difficult. I’m the reverse. For me, my rear is too large and finding clothes that fit in the rear AND the waist is so hard.

The other problem I have? I hate it when bras get to big. 1) There are a couple of bras that I love, and I’m going to hate having to give them up. 2) A good bra is way expensive, and replacing my current bras could be costly. Any ideas?

Congrats that the pants are that big! Sorry that you’ve got to re-alter them. It is a painful process to go through the size stages and needing clothing for each.
You look great! Even with dumpy butt pants :)

Valerie (and others) – ebay is full of brand new, brand name bras with tags on them. Much lower prices than dept store. I’ve purchased several high end designer bras and been very happy with them. If you aren’t familiar with ebay, read the description Really Well and make sure it says new or NWT (New With Tag). It is expensive to replace an entire drawer of bras, and you could end up doing it a few times. I think I’ve been every size they sell at Vicky’s Secret!

now I’m gonna use that phrase. I HATE dumpy butt, but as I already have no butt loosing hasn’t helped me any in that area. Oh, and the crotch thing… why must they hang down to our knees. Really? Cause they totally do and it’s just weird and uncomfortable and by the time you roll up the waistband to fit the look is just off. however, I would take these trials with losing weight over not anyday. I’m just lucky I work for goodwill, I can donate my stuff that no longer fits AND find cute cheap transistional clothes for the inbetween.

I can totally relate to “dumpy butt.” I’ve actually had co-workers tell me my pants were too big in the rear and it made me feel even more self conscience! I just can’t afford to buy new pants and clothes with every size I drop! So frustrating!

HA! ME TOO! Ugh. I mean, as you say, yay for weight loss but holy hell it’s killin my wardrobe!! I’m now down to one pair of blue jeans and one pair of brown denim-trousers that fit but are too long (the plight of the almost-petite person).

It seems every other week I wear something to work and my sweet lil coworker says “Honey…don’t wear that again.” *sigh* A friend and I are off to a Goodwill-esque local store in a few weekends to see if there’s any castoffs that fight my fashion style.

Hysterical! So funny and so true. I have suffered dumpy butt one too many times through my journey. I discovered that wearing more skirts at work can help with this issue. When skirts get too big, they just fall down lower on the hips – no dumpy butt. Getting them tailored to a smaller size is a bit easier than pants, too.

Awesome title! Isn’t weight loss fun? You’ll realize as you lose weight and your body changes that clothes just fit WEIRDLY. Dumpy butt is one of them!

LOL! I’ve totally had dumpy butt! It is nice that clothes fit differently and grow too big on us, but the budget makes it difficult too. I’ve dealt with cinching dresses with belts or just wearing pants and cardigans that are too big for awhile now too. I love the clothes I have that actually FIT me, but I’ve had to choose pieces that aren’t expensive either. I guess we shouldn’t complain!

Another plus-size fashion faux pas that I hate? Double boobs! When ladies have really large boobs and they don’t buy the proper bra, they tend to have this bubble affect that ends up looking like you have four boobs total. NOT CUTE!

Hey girl! I gave you two blog awards! :)

I’m fortunate enough that I work at home so I don’t need dress clothes. I can hang on to my dumpy big clothes for a few more months before buying more! I can’t wait!
