Thankful Thursday

January 27, 2011

This week has been pretty hilly, emotionally. I had the high of the 100 pound mark and all of the wonderful support. Then it snowed (for like the 32nd time this year) and it’s cold. Energy levels haven’t been the best. Thankfully today, things started to thaw and my brain started functioning in a normal gear again. That meant an early morning workout, a busy day at work, then started my taxes, and now I’m tired. So instead of words, you get photos.

Hello, gym.

these as a snack make me very happy

I jotted my first thoughts into this little notebook that is now living in my purse. My brain has a lot of random thoughts and ideas, so I'm trying to capture them better.

I listened to this album on repeat at least 4 times during work today.

I got super excited when the plus size performance tee I ordered from Nike got here, and IT FIT! It's like the holy grail of my tee shirt search, but they're pretty pricey. Pardon the towels hanging on the door. I don't like my towel rack.

I had chicken breast pieces with asian spices for dinner. Had some extra protein because I didn't have much at lunch (ate oatmeal with peanut butter and blueberries at work)

I also made sweet potato fries in the oven (seasoned with paprika, onion powder, garlic powder and sea salt)

So, that’s about it for today.

How are YOU doing this week? Anyone else feeling the winter funk? Any tips on how to shake it?

Hi Emmie! I recently came across your blog and just wanted to say hi! You look so cute in that picture AND i have the same food scale – Target?? I am definitely feeling the funk of winter… I was in San Diego for work for a week and just got back to DC late Tuesday night, and then a snow storm came Wednesday. Made the adjustment back even worse.

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

Thanks! And yes, Target for the win!
San Diego is one of my favorite places- couldn’t imagine having to head back to DC with all that snow afterwards!

You are such a talented writer, photographer. And you look so cute. As a blog follower, I can tell that you have lost weight. I can see it in your face and waist. Good for you!

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

aw, thank you! I think my writing is getting better, but I have to thank my camera phone for the photos LOL. I appreciate your kind words :)

You look SOOOO skinny in that shirt!!

I’m right there with you on the winter funks. We got ANOTHER 19 inches of snow last night. I couldn’t run because I was afraid of falling and busting my butt. It’s chest high snow in Central Park because none of it has melted since New Year’s! I don’t have many tips on how to beat it. However, this video helps… :)

thanks! I kind of felt skinny in that shirt.
I just read your post about being afraid to fall and break something- I totally hear you. We have WAY less snow here and I fear that. Or plowing my car into a light pole. Miss Hybrid doesn’t like the snow.
      That video TOTALLY helped. Love.

Oatmeal with peanut butter and blueberries? You are a genius! That sounds delish, I’m going to have to try that….

As for the funk, YES, I am feeling it. I am having a hard time getting re-motivated after the holidays….still….I’m working out, but it’s sporadic. I know I feel better if I work out, but I just can’t seem to get back to my regular schedule yet. I dread this time of year…

And you do look great in that shirt, it seems like you’re a cutie in everything you wear, I love all your outfit pics.

I’m funking bc I did a dumbshit moment and rammed my pinky toe into something in the middle of the night last week. I didn’t break it, at least we don’t think so, but I managed to sprain it pretty good.

And it brought me an epiphany. Or rather, a new “me” moment. One of my first thoughts (after being blinded by the searing pain and checking to make sure I still had an intact toe) was “SHIT this better not interfere with my exercising!!” But alas, it has, and every day I am upset that I can’t even do my at-home step aerobics. I keep trying now and then bc I’ve suddenly stopped losing weight and so I know my body needs it. Frustrating.

Great on the shirt! I’m totally sick of winter. We have like 9 feet of snow and it’s super cold here in MN, I ask myself every year “Why do I live here?” It has to be over soon, right? Ugh, only January! :-)

Yep winter funk..ALWAYS…every year like clockwork and my winters aren’t half as bad as many others.. But I just keep moving forward…hitting the gym this weekend for a LONG swim!

Yes I am feeling the funk HARD!! I’m having a very hard time dealing wih my two active children ( 4 yrs. and 1 yr. old) it’s great that they’re active but with snow outside they are tearing my house apart annnd on top of that my 1 yr. old has decided to not nap and be cranky/needy all day and not allowing me to eat so I’m over eating at night ::sigh:: frustrating, sorry to vent on here! lol

Oh btw I’m a new reader and I love reading your journey and your new shirt is very slimming!!

oh my gosh. did you get that little notebook at target???
    If so, WHEN?

they had them a few years ago in the dollar bins up front. I LOVE them. I bought a bunch and in time used them all. They are perfect for keeping notes. The PERFECT size to fit in a back pocket. Ohhh I want more.

& I am totally excited about the Rocco book!

I got the notebook from HomeGoods about a month ago. Love it!

You look fabulous in the Nike T-shirt – very flattering! I agree the Dri-fit tees are pricey. Watch for sales when Nike releases a new color line for the shirts – the older colors go on sale. I’ve picked some up as low as $11 before.

    • http://skinnyemmie.com Skinny Emmie

Thanks for reminding me of them! I’ll look out for sales.

  • Jen

Def. feeling the winter funk. Just got 16 inches of snow here yesterday. It makes it so hard for me to go on my walks with my dog. Spring hurry up and get here!

  • http://wannabeathlete.wordpress.com Callie

OMG you just made my day. I totally forgot I had a clementine in my purse until I saw the picture of your little ‘cutie’. And BTW – that new shirt looks fabulous on you. Just saying. :)

I’ve definitely felt the winter funk the last two week. This week has been especially hard and my nutrition has suffered a bit. Today, I beat it by plugging in to Pandora and ignoring the bussel of the cubicle world I live in at work. Music = happiness

Nothing feels so good to feel and see our bodies change like that. Congratulations for hitting your mark and for your new smaller shirt size!

Winter has bothered me, but not like the last 2 years when my poor body wasn’t use to the cold after losing my weight. Now, I get out and run in the cold and am so thankful for it!

  • Christie

I love this post because you look so happy in that photo! I don’t usually post any comments but I read every post and your 100 pound weight loss has been very inspiring for me. I live in Canada and am currently taking part in the X-weighted Challenge. Working to lose 60 pounds in 6 months. So far I think I have crossed the biggest hurdle in the first 2 weeks of the challenge. I’ve been working out daily in the morning. It does feel great like you say. It’s hard to get out of bed but the feeling all day knowing that you have managed to complete your work-out is awesome.

Emmie, You look great! It’s reassuring to read that I’m not the only one battling the winter funk! I’m still eating well (mostly) and exercising (5 days a week, trying to get to 6), but it feels like more of a struggle lately. You are inspiring!

  • http://needtogetmeback.blogspot.com/ Need to Get Me Back

Love your blog! Very impressive and inspiring!

You should check out Hungry Girl recipes.. there is one for Butternut Squash fries, and they are really good- taste just like sweet potato fries but without the calories!

Last winter I had the Winter Funk really bad. I attribute it to the fact that I was running outside and the rain was a huge damper on my running life. This winter? I am relegated to the treadmill so the rain isn’t bugging me as much.

    Sorry you’re in a funk. I recommend wine. ;)
