Fashion Friday

January 21, 2011

It’s Friday night and my brain is fried after all of the deep thinking and introspection I’ve done this week, LOL. What does that mean? You get photos!

Trying to “dress the part” to keep my confidence up. Here are a few outfits from the week:

I look "puffy" in this photo. Anyway, Lane Bryant trousers size 28 (they're WAY past their life span), Old Navy tank (3x), Lane Bryant blazer that is from about 3 years ago. It fit! Size 26. Necklace and watch were gifts.

Old Navy dress (3x), Style & Co leggings from Macys (3x), necklace from Target, bracelet by me (I'm learning how to bead weave), kick ass boots from Zappos (RSVP brand)

Shell and sweater, Inc. from Macys (3x), Old Navy jeans (26- literally fall off if I go up the stairs), Ugg boots (my excuse for them? I had to trek through snow today)

I’m getting to the point where I really need new pants- work trousers and jeans. Shopping for pants is a nightmare for me though as nothing ever seems to fit right length-wise or proportion-wise. I’m just going to have to start taking everything to a tailor so things fit properly.

While we’re on the topic of clothes, I MUST point out these shirts from Old Navy. I want them to sell out so Old Navy realizes there is a market for plus size workout clothes. I rant about it all the time, but plus size performance apparel is SO rare, it’s like finding a needle in a haystack. So here’s the needle:

Old Navy Plus Active Moisture Wicking Performance Top, sizes 1x-4x!

I love this shirt. It’s got thumb holes in the sleeves if you’re a runner. It is a moisture-wicking material but not too hot. The length is great and it’s not too clingy, but not shapeless either. It comes in 2 colors: black and lilac. I WISH it came in short sleeved options and in more colors. I would buy them all out. (And no, Old Navy doesn’t know I’m posting this, but if they’re listening- PLEASE help a fat but fit girl out with more options!)

So cute! Is the jewelry making hard? I’ve always liked the thought of it, but never tried.

LOVE your outfits! Very cute! You look gorgeous! I love old navy’s workout clothes! Very true though…needle in a haystack.

Oh yay! I never ever saw thumb holes in anything plus size before! That’s fantastic. The entire time I was losing I sweat in a nasty old tshirt. I could find performance stuff until I was in regular sizes it was awful!

    Go Old Navy!

  • Michelle Johnson

Really love the top outfit, that tank and blazer are so cute!

Emmie, the clothes look great. The pants do look a little big. That’s a good thing though. You’re doing so well and so close to 100lbs. Woohoo!

Thank you so much for the head’s up on the Old Navy shirt! I’m TOTALLY going to go buy a few!

Oh, and PS, your outfits were outstanding as per usual :)

ooohh…gotta get me that ON top! I love their yoga pants and stock up when they have them. I’ve got 2 pair in a smaller size waiting for the day I can wear them! But this top – especially with the thumbholes – is awesome.

where you see puffy I see stunning! That first outfit is perfect for your colouring, makes you look bright and young and fun, your makeup and hair are great and your smile and sparkling eyes are just beautiful!

  • Nicole

I concur with everyone else. I really like your style! I especially like the tank and blazer from the first picture. Very nice colors on you!

  • Elaine

Love your outfits. Do tell more about your jewelry-making.

You look great! I’m glad that more companies are expanding their sizes. I can remember when LB used to be the only choice I had and their items are rather expensive. Macy’s was another option but their clothes were too “mature” for me. At least now with Old Navy & Target I can buy more clothes and not feel guilty that I am spending so much $$ on items that I am hoping won’t fit me in the near future.

    You look so good!

Nike sells plus-sized workout clothes. Their dri-fit line is AWESOME.

I wondered about these. Do they run small? I think they only go to a 24, so have been hesitant.

      • Elizabeth

By the time that I discovered Nike’s workout clothes, I was out of the plus sizes, so I can’t speak to the fit of their plus-size line. I shop Nike’s on-line store, and find the comments from customers spot on and very helpful, so you could browse and see what others say.

The Dri-Fit T-shirts in the regular sizes don’t necessarily run small, they are just form-fitting. The Dri-Fit pants and capris (and some other T-shirts) come in different fits – everything from slim to loose fit. It takes a leap of faith to feel comfortable in their form-fitting gym clothes, but once you do, you’ll never go back. Nike’s clothes are so freakin’ comfortable and wick away sweat.

I literally just 15 minutes ago ordered one of the dri fit tees to try from nike’s website. Great minds :)
