November 2, 2010

Today, still had some back pain, so didn’t do my weight training program this morning at the gym. Instead, walked the pup 2.2 miles when I got home from work. Getting better- it’s nothing serious, just something that happens every few months. I’ll set the alarm at my normal early bird time for the gym tomorrow and see how sore I am, but I’d like to get some weights in tomorrow.  I really, really, really don’t want to lose momentum, so I’m being extra diligent about food while I’m a little less active than normal.

Some people have been requesting I post my outfits more often, so here you go. I’m thinking of adding a plus size fashion category to cover clothes, since it doesn’t really have to do much with weight loss. Although right now my wardrobe is extremely limited with the colder weather and things being too big. Not even sure I have a coat that fits!

Pardon the crazy red eyes.

Nothing really fancy here. Old Navy mock wrap dress (3x), “I Voted” sticker (free), Kenneth Cole Reaction pointed flats I got on clearance from DSW. Big silver earrings from Target.

Also, are there topics you want me to cover? Questions you want to ask? If so, could you fill out this form? I’ve had some writers block lately and am hoping you can help me out.

i totally relate to not having anything to wear. i have hardly anything too. although i have more selection in cold months. lots of sweat shirts, almost nothing if i need to dress up though. and only a few pairs of pants that fit. 1 pair of jeans that fit well. a few other dressy pants, they are probably too thin to wear during winter. sweatpants. i refuse to wear those in public again! maybe ever lol.

i enjoyed your review of just dance 2 also. we have DDR. the kids just love it, and its fun for the whole family. awesome for parties or sleepovers.

I lose momentum so easily it’s frightening, your efforts to avoid this are impressive.
Also I love that dress, thanks to you I got onto the Old Navy website, I have it in short sleeve I wore it for the first time the other night, it’s fantastic, I love their clothes, the only problem is the $60+ postage fee to Australia!!!

You look super cute Emmie! For me, clothes actually have a lot to do with weight loss.

I read somewhere a comment from someone that they work out harder when they aren’t dressed “like a slob.” This totally rings true for me: I probably don’t look great to other people in my spandex running pants, but when I’m working hard in zumba, and catch myself in the mirror, I feel like I am dressed “like I mean it.” Like, I have a workout uniform that says “I do this all the time.” I started working out a little less than 2 months ago, and I still often am surprised (like, how did this happen? I am not used to being a person who has the gym as a regular haunt), but the uniform helps reinforce and remind me (getting regular physical activity is part of who I am now, and I feel proud of that).

Same with street clothes: I put on nice clothes and I can see the change in my body. And it reminds me that my body is changing. The hard work is working!

You look great! I love the outfit! I think cold weather dressing is the hardest. Its already freezing here and I need to shop for clothes but don’t have too much $$ available so I’ll be looking for sales! :)

Hey Emmie, what’s up with your back? I am certainly no doctor or back expert but being a fitness pro I have to concentrate on strengthening my clients’ cores to either diminish or prevent back pain. Two things I always have them do is use a foam roller on their entire body (upper back to feet) and do total body core exercises such as the plank, side plank, and bird dog. No crunches or sit ups.

When your back gets sore, tight or stiff because of working out, this is normal but there are definitely ways that you can reduce your pain. Ice and heat are two of the best therapeutic modalities that can help when pain creeps up. A sore low back can use a heat or ice back ( which ever is more comfortable) for about 15 minutes as often as needed. Pain symptoms will subside. In addition some topical pain relieving gels can also reduce pain and symptoms. Some gels include cryoderm, biofreeze, and arnica. http://www.universalhealthinfo.com/Ice_vs.html

I like that dress! Very cute. I’m finding more and more things I like at Old Navy. I’m trying to increase my weight training as well. I concentrate most on cardio, but the more I read, the more I hear how essential weight training is.
