Random Thursday in my Head

September 9, 2010

I had a survey a month or two ago that asked some questions about what you think of this blog. I can’t say it enough, or more genuinely- those of you who follow me on this journey? It’s humbling, incredible and I can’t tell you how much of a difference it makes in my journey. You just might be my secret sauce.

Anyway, when I was going through the responses, a couple of people actually said they LIKED my ramblings. I also had a couple people tell me they wanted to see more pictures of me,  so blame them for this mish-mosh of a post, mkay? :)

This morning, I felt pretty when I left to go to work. I took a picture and put it over on my Facebook page. Are you on Facebook? Do you “like” my page there? If not, please consider it. I’d offer you a cookie as a bribe, but they have carbs in them.

The outfit (click to enlarge picture) is made of:

Like I said, totally random post.

But I have a serious question for you, my dear friends. And I mean “dear” in the absolute most sincere way. I *megaheart* blogging. I’ve done this a little over a year now, and I couldn’t imagine this journey without it. I have tons to say and am only limited by the time I have to write it all down.

There is a conference coming up next May called Fitbloggin. For those who don’t know, Fitbloggin is a conference for fitness bloggers (as you probably inferred from the name). I really, really want to go. I’ll learn from other top fitness/weight loss bloggers about how to make the blog better.

Here’s the rub: it will take about $1000 for me to get there and back. Because blogging isn’t my job (as it is for some bloggers who make money on their blogs- great for them!) it’s hard for me to throw down the money to do it.

There are a few ways I could make this happen. I could a) get a corporate sponsor(s)  b) ask for donations c) start holding a weekly car wash.

I’ve talked to a few people about this, and I finally decided just to lay it out here. I think you read this because it’s personal and real and all that. I will never change that. I don’t want people to think that if I get more sponsors that I’m “selling out” in any way. I would NEVER endorse a product I didn’t use and love. No amount of money could make me do that. Believe me, I get requests for advertising the craziest diet pills and it will NEVER happen.

So I have 2 quick questions- if you could just click your answers below, I’d appreciate it. Totally anonymous. If you want to explain, feel free to email me or leave a comment below. The last thing I want to do is turn off those of you who are my support.

First: Do you have a preference of how I try to earn this money for Fitbloggin?

Second: If I try to get the money to do this from sponsors, I might need your encouragement. This would be inviting people to read the blog, tweeting support to my corporate targets, liking me on Facebook, etc. Would you be willing to do that?

Third: Are you a company who might want to sponsor me? AWESOME! Email me.

Thanks, friends!

Really, I don’t think anyone needs Fitbloggin to be an effective voice in the low carb community. Will $1000 really reveal all of the world’s answers? I’m thinking not. The vast majority of bloggers never attend and tend to fare better or as well than/as many of the ones who do go. And think of it this way: they get your money, but you and thousands of people will be treated to the same information, giving no one a leg up, technically speaking. It’s like giving your closest 10,000 friends the “secret to success” in a very narrow field. I don’t hold anything against anyone who loves the conference, but I think it’s more of a networking opportunity than one where you’re going to come away with epiphanies and fluorescent light bulbs of amazingness going off in your head. That’s just my opinion.*disco hip bump to the sistahs*

Jamie- I appreciate your input and can hear what you’re saying. Valid points.
I am going to link up to some of your recipes on yesterday’s post. The lasagna? RIDICULOUS. Love it.

I tend to agree with Jamie in that I’m not sure how much bang you’d get for the buck by attending; though I’m not that familiar with this particular conference. There are many blog-improvement tips out on the web, many of them free or fairly cheap. Mary at A Merry Life has a blogging e-book for just $17 (http://amerrylife.com/health-blog-guide/). You could also pay someone to do some SEO tuning for you (if you want to increase traffic) and you’d spend alot less. You’ve already admitted that time is a limiting factor for you, so you may find that you don’t have the time to implement the new tips you learn at the conference. But, if it’s networking and face-to-face time with other bloggers that you desire, then that’s a whole different story. Just weigh the pros and cons so that you aren’t disappointed whichever way you decide.

The lasagna is so naughty, you want to put it in fishnets and spank it.

You are looking so pretty today! :) I’m glad you shared that picture.

As for the fitbloggin’ questions, I say do what you need to do. If you want to go you will find a way to get there and those of us who love reading will continue to do so.

      gracias my friend!

That picture is awesome. I love Old Navy….but their clothing sizes don’t like me :( (30/32 up to 38 depending on the company and cut of clothes)

However you want to meet your money goal is fine by me….I’ve struggled with money as much as I’ve struggled with me weight so I say if you find something that works, go for it! I’ll still read….finally found someone who thinks like me, has a lot of the same fears as me, and actually understands what it’s like. :)

I wish I could attend the blogger conferences. But like you it would cost me A LOT of money. Money I don’t have. And if I’m spending money going out of town–I’m going on an awesome vacation with my boyfriend. :)

Aww, thanks for plugging my e-book! I’m glad you found it provided value! :)

I agree if you want a better blog a conference isn’t the right answer. It won’t help you improve much. But if you want to meet other bloggers and network? Totally worth it. And they are fun. I turned down Fitbloggin for next year because it wouldn’t be worth it for me to fly from New Zealand – even to speak (free conference). Somtimes the expenses aren’t worth it. Sometimes they are. It just depends on why you want to go!
