Personal Training Begins!

June 5, 2010

Check out my vlog recorded after I finished my first personal training session with Rob Silver of Heartfit Lexington. Today, we had to test to see how my heart responded when I pushed my body – very interesting!

Also, if you haven’t done so yet, check out this post (that I seriously almost deleted 3 times) that I put up last night. Hope you all are having a great weekend.

Love it! You're going to rock this program. It seems like you have a lot of freedom to try new things and do whatever you want to do, so long as you work to a certain level. What about your swimming? Is the monitor waterproof?

Yep, it's waterproof! He wants me to limit pool time to 1 workout per week so I get the opportunity to try other things also. Or, if I want to swim a day above and beyond the 4 I've committed to for his program, I can do so. Zumba is a little different- my heart rate gets way too high and stays there for too long to count in my 4 day heart rate training. So if I want to Zumba, it will have to be in addition to those 4 days.

Wow that's amazing that Zumba is too high. The first thing “they” tell
people is “take a class, something that gets your heart rate up!”

    Interesting!

It doesn't mean Zumba is too high for everyone. It just means for my particular training program, it falls into my high intensity heart rate zone, of which I should only do intervals, not sustain for 40+ minutes. As I get more fit, I'll be able to do more activities like this as my heart rate won't rise as high for activities like Zumba.

My favorite part of the entire vlog is when you said “don't judge!” You are 100% right.
So often we compare ourselves to others. “How fast is that person running? How much weight is that person lifting?”

Ask yourself this: who is a fitter person, the person who is running a mile at 6mph after already running a marathon or the person running 1 mile at 8pmh? Pretty simple answer. Now, what if you just saw them running that 1 mile and didn't see the other person running that marathon…the moral of the story, focus on yourself!

When you see other people at the gym, you have no idea how long they have been working out, what sequence of lifting they are conducting or how many reps. Focus on what you are doing and the sky is the limit.

I am so proud of Emily – she is going to have all of her health dreams come true! After today's workout, I have absolutely no doubt the goals are attainable. I know after 1 session who has “it.” And folks, let me tell you…Emily has IT!

You were awesome today Skinny Emmie!

Emmie, Rob is correct! You are doing great and such an inspiration… LOVE reading what you are doing and THANK YOU girl for the motivation

Thanks for the video! Loved it! It was very informative!

That's funny… When I walked into the gym for the first time ever, there was this dude on the elliptical who was seriously going so fast! I was like, ummm…yeah…I can't do that. ;D
