Body Rebellion

June 14, 2010

My body hates me. Seriously.

I’m on week 3 of at least 4 days a week exercise. I haven’t eaten dinner out in at least a month (from a 3-4 day a week habit). I cut back my coffee. I’m drinking at least a gallon of water a day. I am monitoring all of my foods very strictly.

Today? Got on the scale. 6 pounds. Not 6 pounds lost – 6 pounds gained.

I felt defeated. I got off the scale and back on again. The story was the same.

I replayed all my actions from the prior week in my head. Did I overeat? Did I drink all my water? Any slip ups? I couldn’t think of ANYTHING.

So, we’re chalking this up to my body hating me.

I know what you guys are going to say: “You’re building muscle” “You’re retaining water”

Does it make me feel better? No.

So, I’m working really hard to think of some non-scale victories this week:

  • I FEEL a little smaller
  • My squishy fat is out of control
  • My body is sore, in a good way
  • I KNOW I’m becoming more fit because I’m doing things I wouldn’t have been able to do 3 weeks ago

So, I took this picture this morning. It makes me feel a little better. I’m getting a shape.

My body hates me. Blah.

I'm sorry. I got on the scale this morning and have gained 10 pounds. I know exactly where mine came from. That stupid sweet tooth that I have let get out of control. I am back to it today.

You LOOK smaller. And yeah, no that stuff doesn't make me feel better either when people say it. I bet it slides back off by next week though. I think I gained like… 5lbs when I started working out like a fiend.

    You look gawgus this morning!

You got to train yourself not to live and die by the scale. The scale does not rule your life or your emotions. If you exercise (move more) eat right (and less) you WILL lose weight. Don't let that hunk of metal run your life.

  • http://www.twenty-six-to-life.blogspot.com Kate

That's a great picture of you! Don't let the scale get you down, your weight can fluctuate A LOT throughout the day. Keep at it and the numbers WILL start to reflect all your hard work.

  • Emily

You look really cute in that picture! Just think…. most times when someone on biggest loser has a bad week, the next week they have an awesome week!

i totally understand your frustration. but, i'm glad you're focusing on the fact you've been that diligent. that alone is more than a lot of us can say.

the best part though – you look GREAT in that dress! love the outfit!

You look awesome!! I know what you mean, that's happened to me and it's FRUSTRATING!! Just keep doing what you are doing and you WILL get your reward!! And tape that picture to the frig because it looks CUTE!

I know you're right. It's hard. I know what you're saying is true, but to look at the scale hovering around 400 pounds just makes you want to vomit with disgust.

    Thank you, my friend *hug*

  • http://www.skinnyemmie.com skinnyemmie

You'll get it under control, Noel! And your running will help knock that 10 pounds off in no time.

  • http://www.skinnyemmie.com skinnyemmie

Thanks Kate. I appreciate the encouragement.

  • http://www.skinnyemmie.com skinnyemmie

Thanks, Emily. That is such true advice!

Thank you! I really appreciate the encouragement.

Thanks, Debbie. Trying hard today to keep my chin up. And I think I will tape the picture to the fridge- it is kinda cute, huh?!

You look great. The scale is a fickle thing, don't let it ruin your day.

You look GREAT! For what it's worth, that was happening to a lot of our members in our biggest loser group this year too. They'd lose 8, gain 4, lose 4, gain 3, etc…but the overall trend was always down, and in the end added up to big numbers. Even though it doesn't make you feel better right now, it IS true that you're probably building muscle :)

    Keep it going!

I think you look great! So, what everyone else said about the scale and all that.

  • http://www.losetolivediva.com Jessica

Seeing the weight gain on the scale can be extremely frustrating but I think you are smart to look at all the good things that are happening to your body. As annoying as the scale can be, don't let it get you to a point where you over eat. Continue doing what you are doing, it is working. That picture is fabulous. Keep reminding yourself of all the accomplishments and eventually the scale will catch up.

  • Alison

I have to say, you look awesome in that dress!!! Where did you get it?

  • http://www.skinnyemmie.com skinnyemmie

Thanks Alison! I got it last year from Target. It's just a basic strapless
maxi dress. I think Old Navy has some pretty similar to this right now.

  • http://biglifelittleblog.blogspot.com Emily

Have you considered taking measurements of your waist, hips, arms and thighs monthly? It's just a non-scale way to monitor and confirm that your REALLY ARE losing inches.

  • http://www.skinnyemmie.com skinnyemmie

Yeah, I last took my measurements 2 weeks ago. I typically only do it once a month because I'm not sure if I could tell a difference otherwise, but if I still feel bummed tonight I'll go ahead and measure just to check.

  • Blaisdell Amber

just remember it is a long distance race, you will get there!

  • Sarah7500

Me too. I worked out like crazy this week. Totally changed my schedule. And how much did I lose? 1 pound. That's it. I could take a crap and lose a pound, too. Totally discouraged. And sorry for being gross.

  • http://amerrylife.com Mary

If you are feeling better and more fit then don't worry what the scale says. Honestly. Just keep doing what you are doing.

  • http://twitter.com/thejenwestquest Jen West

Don't get discouraged… you may have just briefly plateaued!! You are glowing & beautiful in your photo. :) Keep on going!!!!

  • MB

I swear the scale is always a week behind. Pay no attention and keep doing the right things and it will come around eventually. Hang in there and keep the faith that eating healthy and moving more will give you the results on the scale.

  • http://www.shrinkingmama.com Melissa

I needed to up my calories because my body went into starvation mode when I started working out! It could be that. By the way girl you LOOK damn fabulous in that outfit! I wish we had awesome plus sized clothes like that out here in Canada but sadly we have like two totally pathetic stores to chose from! Keep at it though girl and you'll see weight numbers going down soon!

  • Brittany

I feel ya! But you're doing great! You're giving it your all, and that's all you can do!

    Love your picture!

  • Rach

So many people forget that the body is a funny thing. Sometimes we do everything right, & we gain. Sometimes we do everything wrong, & we lose. But it all evens out in the end. I know (believe me!) this isn't a consolation now, but we're all on your side. And I think you're beautiful!
